Fire Grates
Fire grates are a crucial component of any solid fuel fireplace, providing a stable platform for burning coal or logs while ensuring proper airflow from below. This airflow enhances combustion efficiency, keeping your fire burning brightly. Designed with horizontal or lateral bars, fire grates allow oxygen to reach the fire while enabling hot ash to fall through and collect in an ash pan beneath. The ash pan makes it easy to safely dispose of cooled embers.
Most modern fire grates are made to fit standard tapered fire backs, available in 14″, 16″, and 18″ sizes. However, it’s important to note that the actual dimensions of these fire backs and grates differ slightly from their listed sizes. For example, a “16-inch fire back” typically has an opening closer to 15 inches at the front. If you’re unsure, you can find precise dimensions in the “Dimensions” tab on our product pages.
